Ever since I decided to change my mind about the motivational hypesters, I’ve found that every once in a while a good video pops up right in front of me. This one came to me via my wife who reads and watches more motivational material than I do because tend to get distracted with other things. Oh, that reminds me, I started reading Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin because the HBO show was so awesome and a friend of mine recommended the books to me long ago but I kept putting it off. I was always into R.A. Salvatore when I was a kid then blitzed through Terry Brooks’ Shannara series after meeting him at a writer’s conference and really appreciating his teaching and general conversation….sorry, got a little of course.
It is my experience that the more one ventures out of one’s comfort zone, the more obstacles rise up to try and beat one back into that comfort zone. Usually it’s people who discourage and tell you everything you can’t do or why for whatever reason what you are doing is not going to succeed (or only succeeds for some lucky people). Yet in reality, these nay-sayers have no real control over how successful or unsuccessful you become because it is up to you to let the bad corrupt your thoughts or let the good enrich your mind. The old devil and angel on the shoulders comes to mind when I think of the positive and negative messages that come our way constantly. I’m not always successful at telling the devil to shove off because it is easy to be negative and easy to criticize life for not giving you what you think you deserve.
Rather than ramble on, I encourage you to listen to the video on the right and be inspired to motivate yourself. When I listened to it the first time I could not help thinking how current it was in the depiction of our society today. Then I saw it was recorded in 1956 by Earl Nightingale. Thanks Earl for not only raising the intelligence level associated with that name, but for continuing to inspire over 50 years later.
