I watched both episode 1 and episode 2 back to back, and if the season started off on a decent note, it too took a sharp, eye-gouging, nose-dive on the second show. Last season it was painful to watch an episode about Madonna’s music that had no real plot that fit with their song choices. It was a case of the song choice dictating the show and that’s bad. The “Brittney Spears” episode, was very, very bad.
Where to start? Remember how I said that the writers need to limit the exposure of secondary characters because too many ‘playas’ makes for a bad game plan. Using Brittney, the proverbial dumb blonde, too much is taking her character from good side bit gag with the occasional dumb-funny comment, to over-used, tired, and now annoying dead-pan one-liner. She obviously can dance and is therefore center-stage the big numbers, but to give her more screen time because they need her to remake a few Brittney videos was a waste of time. I’ll never get back those few minutes I had to suffer through ‘Slave’ or whatever that other one with Santanna was (I’m not a big Brittney Spears fan so I don’t know most of her song titles. Shocking, I know).
Poor use of John Stamos too. The ‘Full House’ icon is too cool for Emma (also a character becoming tired and boring) and should have had a sing-off with Will (like Neil Patrick Harris did last year), that’s assuming he can sing. If you’re going to bring on Stamos, then you have to bring Candace Cameron Bure with him and have a Full House theme song remake.
There’s not really much else to say about this episode so let’s just forget about it and move on to episode 3.
